Families, friends and couples who would rather chase a story than tick off sights will enjoy playing Captain Blue, hunting stolen treasure across Aberdeen city centre from the Maritime Museum to the Music Hall and picking up quirky facts. It takes around 90 minutes and is free to play. Despite the name there is no boat, so anyone hoping for a harbour cruise or a live guide should look elsewhere.

No. The cruise is part of the story, not a boat trip. It is a walking game of about 2 km on your phone, starting at the Maritime Museum and finishing at the Music Hall, with puzzles and facts at each stop as you recover Captain Blue's stolen treasure.
Is this a self-guided walking tour of Aberdeen?
Yes. There is no guide and no group to join. The app leads you through 13 stops, including Castlegate Square and the Mercat Cross, St. Andrew's Cathedral, Marischal College, Aberdeen's Oldest House, the Art Gallery and statues of William Wallace and Robert Burns. You can start whenever you like.
Where does it start and finish, and how long does it take?
It starts at the Maritime Museum and ends at the Music Hall, so it is not a loop. The route is about 2 km, and most players take around 90 minutes including walking and solving the puzzles.
Can we stop if it gets cold or rainy?
Yes. You can pause the game at any point and carry on later. If the weather turns cold, there is a place to go inside and warm up at almost every location on the route, then pick up where you left off.
Can we play as a family or a group, and do we need to book?
The game is free to play, so families, friends, couples or solo players can simply start it on a phone whenever suits them. There is no time slot to book, and no attraction tickets are needed for any of the stops.
