The route links 11 stops across the UNESCO-listed historic centre, including Largo do Toural, Igreja da Misericórdia, Largo de Oliveira, Praça de São Tiago, the former Convento de Santa Clara and Igreja de São Miguel. Guimarães is known as the birthplace of Portugal, and the walk includes the Aqui Nasceu Portugal stop. It also visits two monuments to Afonso Henriques: the effigy where you start and his statue later on the route. The stories along the way cover the town's myths and legends.

You start at the Afonso Henriques effigy and cover about 2.2 km on foot. The walk takes close to two hours, so plan for a little more if you want to linger at the squares or stop for a coffee along the way.
