What is this Edinburgh mystery game about?
You play John Gray, a trusted night watchman of Edinburgh City Police, joined by Bobby, his loyal Skye Terrier. Horrifying crimes keep repeating, and your task is to find a legendary detective and unravel the mystery by solving puzzles and following cryptic clues through the gothic streets and alleys of the Old Town.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at the William Chambers Monument and finishes at the Burns Monument, so it is not a loop. In between you pass West Bow, the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, The Witchery by the Castle, St Giles' Cathedral, Advocate's Close, the Tron Tavern, John Knox House and New Parliament House.
How long does it take and how far do we walk?
Most players take just over two hours, including walking and solving the puzzles. The route covers 4.2 km through the Old Town and is played outdoors, so wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. You can pause along the way and carry on later.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, so friends or couples can follow the clues and solve the puzzles side by side on the same case as John Gray and Bobby.
Do we need to book a time slot?
No. There is no group to join and no guide to meet, so you can start whenever suits you. The app leads you from stop to stop on your phone, and you can pause the game and continue later if you need a break.
