Over deze quest
Budapest calls, and so does the mystery of a lifetime. You are Attila Fodor, a professor of Medieval History at Budapest University. Yesterday, an old friend from an antique shop rang you in a frenzy—he claims to have found something that could rewrite history itself. His only instruction? Meet him at the foot of “Buda’s liberator.”
What follows is a gripping journey through the storied grounds of Buda Castle. Solve cryptic clues, unravel hidden secrets, and follow the trail of a forgotten treasure buried in the heart of Budapest.
With each step, you’ll uncover history, mystery, and moments to share with friends or family. Will you find the treasure—or become part of the legend?
Is dit iets voor jullie?
Voor wie het is
Starting and ending at the statue of Prince Eugene of Savoy, this 3.1 km loop of Buda Castle passes Vienna Gate, Trinity Square and the Labyrinth in around 90 minutes. Couples who like cracking clues together and families with school-age children enjoy it most. Anyone wanting a live guide to question, or with children too young for medium-level cryptic clues, should pick another walk.

Veelgestelde vragen
Is this a self-guided game in Budapest?
Yes. You play on your phone and the app leads you from place to place around Buda Castle, tells the story of each stop and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you. There is no guide and no group to join, you start whenever you like, and one ticket covers your whole group up to the stated number of devices.
Do I have to play it at Buda Castle itself, or can I do it anywhere?
You need to be there. The puzzles are built around the statues, squares and buildings of the Castle District, such as Trinity Square, Vienna Gate and Sándor Palace, so the clues only work when you are standing in front of them.
Is there a map, and how do I find my way between stops?
The app guides you from one stop to the next, so you do not need to plan a route. The walk covers 15 stops over about 3.1 km and loops back to where it began, passing places like the Hatvany Palace, the Labyrinth and the Matthias Fountain.
Where does it start and how long does it take?
It starts at the equestrian statue of Prince Eugene of Savoy (Savoyai Jenő herceg lovasszobra) and finishes there too. Allow around 90 minutes for the 3.1 km route. You do not need to book a time, and you can pause and continue later if you want a break.
Is it good for kids?
It is tagged as family friendly and a family favourite, but the puzzles are medium difficulty with cryptic clues, so it suits school-age children who enjoy solving riddles with an adult. Very young children may find the clues hard and the 3.1 km walk long.
