What is the Oz escape game in Amsterdam?
It is an outdoor, escape-room-style game played on your phone in Vondelpark. A new story inspired by L. Frank Baum's original 1900 Oz novel sets puzzles you solve to outsmart the witch, using what is in front of you at each stop. Original Oz-themed songs made for the game play in the app.
Does each person in our group need their own ticket?
No. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, so friends, couples and families can team up on a single game. If you prefer to play alone, you can take on the witch's challenges solo and see how you compare on the leaderboard.
Where does the game start and finish?
It starts and ends at Paviljoen Vondelpark, a 2.7 km loop through the park. Along the way you pass Vondelfontein, the statue of Joost van den Vondel, 't Blauwe Theehuis, Groot Melkhuis, the Picasso sculpture, the Rosarium, The Orgelpark and Podium voor tijdelijke kunst.
How long does it take, and do we need to book a time?
Most players take about two hours, walking and puzzles included. There is no time slot to book and no group to join: start whenever you like, and pause in the app to continue later if you want a coffee stop at one of the park cafes on the route.
Is it played outdoors, and what if it rains?
The whole game is outdoors, walking between stops in Vondelpark, so dress for the weather. Because you can pause at any point and pick up where you left off, you can wait out a shower or finish the route on another day.
