Pont del Bisbe is a stunning Neo-Gothic bridge built in 1929 for the Barcelona International Exposition, designed by Joan Rubió I Bellver, a talented disciple of Antoni Gaudi. Despite its medieval appearance, this elegant marble bridge is surprisingly modern, connecting the Catalan Parliament building to the president's residence across Carrer del Bisbe. The bridge is famous not just for its architectural beauty but also for a legendary curse tied to its creation. Legend has it that architect Rubió was frustrated because only his bridge was selected to be built among his proposed urban improvements that would have transformed the Gothic Quarter by demolishing non-Gothic structures. In response, Rubió allegedly designed a skull with a dagger on the underside of the bridge as a curse on those who walk beneath it. But don't worry: local tradition says you can reverse the curse by walking backward under the bridge while making a wish. Whether you believe in the curse or not, Pont del Bisbe is a remarkable example of early 20th-century romantic architecture.
