The Red Lighthouse of La Rochelle is a small harbour light on the west side of the entrance to the Old Port in La Rochelle, western France. Together with its green counterpart on the opposite side, it helps guide ships into the historic harbour. The story behind it

Lighthouses were first built on cliffs and coasts to steer sailors away from dangerous rocks.
