This self-guided walking tour of Vienna takes you through the Innere Stadt, past St. Stephen's Cathedral, the Vienna State Opera, Café Frauenhuber, and the former homes of Mozart, Beethoven, and Sigmund Freud.

Where is St. Stephen's Cathedral, and does the walk start there?
St. Stephen's Cathedral stands in Vienna's Innere Stadt, the old city centre. It is both the starting point and the final stop, so you finish where you began after a loop that takes in the Mozart apartment, the Vienna State Opera and the Hofburg Silver Collection.
How long is the walk and how far will we go?
Plan on around 1.5 to 2 hours for about 4.1 km through the Innere Stadt. There are 12 stops, including Beethoven's Pasqualatihaus, the Sigmund Freud Museum, Zu den fünf Morden, the Albrechtsbrunnen and Café Frauenhuber, with a story and a coded puzzle along the way.
Do we need to book a time or meet a guide?
No. The walk is self-guided and played on your phone, so you can start whenever you like. The app leads you from place to place, tells the story of each stop and sets puzzles based on what is in front of you. There is no group to join and no guide.
Can we play together as a group?
Yes, one ticket covers your whole group, so friends or a couple can follow Mathilde Schleicher's story together and work out the letters from her rival and the mysterious ally who signs as freund side by side.
Is it outdoors, and what if it rains?
It is a walking route through the streets of the old town, so expect to be outside between stops. You can pause the game at any point and continue later, which makes it easy to wait out a shower or take a break.
