Locals and repeat visitors who know Old Montreal will spend about an hour on a 3.2 km loop through Little Burgundy and the Lachine Canal, passing Marché Atwater, the Coexistence Mural, the Corona Theatre and Jazzmen Park. Is this a tour of Montreal's underground city?
No. The "underground" here is about the story and the spirit of the neighbourhood. It is a street-level walk through the Southwest and Little Burgundy boroughs, crossing the Atwater Footbridge and Pont Charlevoix and following Notre-Dame Street West, so plan to be outdoors rather than in indoor tunnels.
How many km is the walk and how long does it take?
The route covers about 3.2 km and takes around an hour at an easy pace, including time to read the stories and solve the clues. You can pause the game and continue later if you want to stop at Marché Atwater or somewhere along Notre-Dame Street West.
Where does the walk start and finish?
It starts and ends at Saint Irenaeus Church, so you finish where you began. In between, the app leads you past the Atwater Footbridge, Pont Charlevoix, Marché Atwater, the Coexistence Mural, the Corona Theatre, Jazzmen Park and the Bibliothèque-Réjean-Ducharme.
What is the best time of day to play?
Play in daylight, as it is not recommended at night. For a quieter walk, go on a weekday during working hours, when crowds are smaller. There is no set start time to book, and no attraction tickets are needed for any of the stops.
Can our group play together on one ticket?
Yes. One ticket covers your whole group, up to the number of devices stated for the quest. Everyone follows the same route and works on the same clues and poems together, and you can start whenever your group is ready.
