This historical Boston walking tour takes you from the grand facade of the Boston Public Library through Copley Square, across the Public Garden, into Boston Common, up to the State House, and deep into the old city. At each stop, a piece of history snaps into focus.
Along the way you will encounter the site where Alexander Graham Bell first transmitted sound, the church where Charles Dickens first read A Christmas Carol aloud, the oldest restaurant in America, and the oldest pub. Every stop is a record. Every block is a chapter of American history.

It starts at the Boston Public Library and finishes at the Union Oyster House, so it is not a loop. In between you pass Copley Square, the Ether Monument, Boston Common, the Massachusetts State House, Park Street, Tremont Temple Baptist Church and the Bell In Hand Tavern, covering about 3.8 km.
Is this a guided tour of Boston?
No, it is self-guided. The app on your phone leads you from stop to stop, tells the story of each place and sets a puzzle based on what is in front of you. There is no group to join and no set departure time, so you can start whenever you like and pause to continue later.
Does the quest include a tour inside the Boston Public Library?
No. The quest begins at the library's grand facade, but going inside the places on the route is not part of the experience. Everything is played outdoors from the street, square or park in front of each stop.
How long does it take?
Most players take about two and a half hours, including the walking and the puzzles, over roughly 3.8 km. Because you can pause and pick it up again later, you can break it up with a coffee or lunch stop along the way.
Can we play as a family or group, and is it suitable for kids?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together. Children under 12 should be guided by their parents, so it works best for families who solve the puzzles side by side. Note that some checkpoints may have temporary construction work nearby.
