This loop starts and ends at San Lorenzo Church, following a stolen painting for about 2 km past Palazzo Medici, the Duomo, Palazzo Strozzi and Piazza della Repubblica. Families and couples get a gentle hour of Medici history, rivals and plots, with puzzles set in the streets they walk. Plan it for daylight, and if you would rather ask a live guide about the Medici in person, choose something else.

Is there a treasure hunt I can do around Florence?
Yes. This is a self-guided treasure hunt played on your phone, following the trail of a stolen painting and the story of the Medici family. At each stop the app tells the story of the place and sets a puzzle based on what is in front of you.
Where does the walk start and finish?
It starts and ends at San Lorenzo Church, so you finish where you began. Along the way you pass Piazza della Repubblica, Palazzo Strozzi, the Duomo, Palazzo Medici and the Medici Chapel, plus statues including Giovanni delle Bande Nere.
How long does it take and how far is it?
Plan on about an hour of walking and puzzle solving over roughly 2.1 km. You can pause at any point, stop for a coffee or a look around, and continue later from where you left off.
Is it suitable for children?
It is marked as family friendly and the distance is short, so it suits children old enough to walk around 2 km and help an adult work out puzzles from the buildings and statues around them. It is best played in daylight, as night play is not recommended.
Do we need to book a time, and can we play as a group?
There is no time slot to book and no guide to meet. Start whenever suits you and play on your phone at your own pace. One ticket covers your whole group, up to the number of devices stated for the quest.
