The story behind it

The Cut began as a railroad corridor, a trench cut below street level so that trains could pass through the east side of the city without crossing its roads. In the late 2000s the city and local partners turned it into a greenway. The first stretch opened in 2009, and a later extension carried it north to Eastern Market. • The Riverwalk is close at the south end and Eastern Market at the north end, so you can build a longer walk around the Cut.
