Is this a guided tour of the Flatiron Building?
There is no live guide. It is a self-guided walk played on your phone, and the Flatiron Building is one of 15 stops. At each one the app tells the story of the place and sets a puzzle. Other stops include the MetLife Tower, the Appellate Court and the Empire State Building.
What will I see in the Flatiron District and Gramercy?
The route moves from Gilded Age New York to modern skyscrapers. Stops include the Fifth Avenue Building Clock, the Chester Arthur, Worth and Seward monuments, the former Madison Square Garden site at the NY Life Building, the Church of the Transfiguration, The Players and the National Arts Club, Gramercy Park and Pete's Tavern.
Where does it start and how long does it take?
The walk starts at the Union Square Drinking Fountain. It covers about 3.5 km and takes around 1.5 hours at a relaxed pace. You can pause at any point and continue later, so a coffee break or a longer look at a building will not cost you your progress.
