Over deze quest
Admiring ancient urban landscapes is interesting. But it's even more fascinating to find yourself in the same spot where a photographer once stood.
Racing through the years while staying in the very center of a beautiful city – that's an enchanting experience! Once, fortress walls dominated this place, cameras were the size of suitcases, and gasoline was only sold in pharmacies as a remedy.
Fortunately, you can still enjoy a cup of coffee in a pastry shop just like in the late 19th century.
Is dit iets voor jullie?
Voor wie het is
Visitors with family roots in old Breslau, history fans and lovers of then-and-now photography can stand where early photographers once stood, from Plac Solny to Tumski Island. Couples and families get a relaxed 5.2 km walk of about two and a half hours, with places to warm up along the way. Anyone hoping to quiz a live guide about the pre-war city, or with children who tire on long walks, should pick something else.

Veelgestelde vragen
Is this a walking tour of old Breslau?
Yes. It is a self-guided walk of about 5.2 km through the centre of Wrocław, comparing the pre-war city with today's streets. You find the spots where old photographs were taken, passing the Opera, Plac Solny, the University, Nowy Targ, Piasek Island and Tumski Island.
Can we play it as a team in Wrocław?
Yes. You play on your phones as a group, following the route together and solving each puzzle in what is in front of you. One ticket covers your whole group, there is no guide and no other players, and you can start any time that suits you.
Does the route pass Plac Solny?
Yes, Plac Solny is one of the stops. The app leads you there from the Opera and the old meteorological station, tells the story of the square and sets a puzzle on the spot before you continue towards the University and the river islands.
Where does it start and can we pause if it gets cold?
The walk starts at Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 58. It takes around two and a half hours, but you can pause at any point and continue later. Almost every location on the route has somewhere nearby to go inside and warm up, such as a café or pastry shop.
Is it good for kids?
It is tagged as family friendly, and spotting old photographs in today's streets works well for school-age children. Keep in mind the distance of 5.2 km and the length of around two and a half hours, which can be a lot for very young children without breaks.
