Reykjavík

The statue of Ingólfur Arnarson, the man traditionally counted as Iceland's first permanent settler, stands on Arnarhóll hill in Reykjavík looking out over the harbour. It is a short, sharp climb with a good view over the old town.

Skólavörðustígur in Reykjavík is painted along its length in rainbow stripes, running straight up to the ridged concrete front of Hallgrímskirkja. It was first painted for Pride and the city kept it.

The Icelandic Phallological Museum in Reykjavík collects specimens from Iceland's mammals, and manages to be both a genuine natural history collection and the strangest museum most visitors will ever enter. It handles the subject far more soberly than you expect.
