This loop starts and ends at the Chicago Historical Society and covers about 2 km of Old Town in around 90 minutes, passing the Chicago Fire Relic, the Old Town Triangle District Marker and the Second City Main Stage. Oz fans, friends, couples and families solve the puzzles together, while solo players chase the leaderboard. Anyone who wants a live host and four walls rather than an outdoor walk should book an indoor escape room instead.

What is The Oz Escape experience?
It is an outdoor, escape-room-style game played on your phone. You team up with a group of misfits in a new story inspired by L. Frank Baum's 1900 Oz novel, crack puzzles to outsmart the witch and follow clues to each new location. Original Oz-themed songs play in the app and stay available afterwards.
Where does the Chicago game start and end?
It starts at the Chicago Historical Society and finishes back there, so you end where you began. In between, the route takes in stops such as the Chicago Fire Relic, the Old Town Triangle District Marker, the Archbishop's Residence, the Children's Fountain and the Second City Main Stage.
How long does it take and how far do we walk?
Plan on around 90 minutes for about 2 km on foot. You can pause whenever you like and pick up where you left off later, so a coffee break or a slower pace with children is no problem.
Can we play as a group, or solo?
Both work. Friends and families can solve the puzzles together, and one ticket covers your whole group. Solo players can take on the witch's challenges alone and compare their result on the leaderboard.
Do we need to book a time slot?
No. Unlike an indoor escape room, there is no fixed session or guide to meet. You start whenever you are ready at the Chicago Historical Society, play at your own pace and can stop and continue later. The whole game is outdoors, so plan around the weather.
