Starting across the road from the Colosseum at Via Labicana, this 3 km walk follows a missing gladiator past a fountain in a small piazza and the bronze statue of Julius Caesar. Families with older children and ancient-history fans get around 90 minutes of gladiator lore with no attraction tickets needed. If you want to see inside the Colosseum with a live guide answering questions, book a ticketed tour instead.

What is the Gladiators of Rome game?
It is a self-guided walk played on your phone. You take the role of a gladiator searching the city for your former sparring partner, Rome's greatest fighter, who has gone missing. The app leads you from place to place, tells the story of each spot and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you.
Do we need to buy tickets for any attractions on the route?
No attraction tickets are required. The route covers some of the most famous sites in Rome's historic centre along with lesser known spots, including a fountain in a small piazza and the bronze statue of Julius Caesar by the main road.
Where does the quest start, and do we need to book a time?
You start at the intersection of Via Labicana and Via del Colosseo, across the road from the Colosseum and next to the red bus ticket booth. There is no set time to book and no group to meet, so you can begin whenever you arrive.
How long does it take and how far will we walk?
Plan on around 90 minutes to cover about 3 km on foot. You can pause the game at any point, stop for a break or a meal, and continue later from where you left off.
Is it suitable for children, and can we play as a group?
It suits older children who enjoy ancient history and solving puzzles on the go. Younger children may find 3 km and 90 minutes a stretch. You play together as a group with no guide, and one ticket covers your whole group.
