Is there a self-guided tour of Tel Aviv's Independence Trail?
Yes. This is a self-guided city game played on your phone. The app leads you from stop to stop, tells the story of each place and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you. There is no guide and no group to join, and you can start whenever you like.
Where does the walk start and finish?
It starts at the Mosaic Fountain and finishes at the White City Mark, about 1.2 km away, so it is not a loop. Along the way you pass the Dreyfus Statue, Weiss House, the First Kiosk, the Hall of Independence, the Founders Monument, the Hagana Museum, Lederberg House, the Great Synagogue and King Albert Square.
How long does it take, and can we pause?
Most players take about 75 minutes, or around an hour and a quarter, including walking and solving the puzzles. You can pause at any point and continue later, so a coffee stop or a longer look at one of the historic houses will not cost you your progress.
Is it good for kids?
It is recommended for families and works best during the day. The route is short at 1.2 km, and school-age children who enjoy following clues and solving mysteries will get the most out of it. Younger children may need help from an adult with the puzzles and the history.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
Yes, one ticket covers the whole group playing together on the route. There is no time slot to book: you start when you arrive at the Mosaic Fountain, at whatever time suits you, ideally in daylight.
