You play John Gray, a trusted night watchman of the Edinburgh City Police, as horrifying, repeating crimes haunt the streets. With your Skye Terrier Bobby, you search the Old Town for a legendary detective, solving puzzles and following cryptic clues hidden in its dark alleys.
Does Bobby the dog appear in the quest?
Yes. Bobby, John Gray's loyal Skye Terrier, is your companion throughout the story. The quest is built around the legend of the night watchman and his dog, told as a gothic crime mystery as you walk the streets of the Old Town.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts and ends at the William Chambers Monument, so you finish where you began. On the way you pass the Burns Monument, John Knox House, the Tron Tavern, Advocate's Close, St Giles' Cathedral, The Witchery by the Castle, the Castle Esplanade and West Bow.
How long does it take and how far is the walk?
Plan on about an hour for a route of around 4.2 km on foot. The whole quest is outdoors, so dress for the weather. You can pause at any point and carry on later, which helps if you want to stop for a drink or shelter from rain.
Do we need to book a time, and can we play as a group?
No booking is needed. You start whenever you like on your phone, with no guide and no set group to join. One ticket covers your whole group, so friends or couples can follow the story and work on the puzzles together.
