This iconic Barcelona landmark was named after 14th-century city wall water pipes called 'canaletes.' The current fountain was designed by Pere Falqués in 1888, representing the modernist style that Barcelona embraced at the turn of the century. An enchanting legend surrounds the fountain: according to tradition, if you drink from it, you'll return to Barcelona. Countless visitors have tested this claim, and many have indeed returned to the city. Since the 1930s, the fountain has also become a focal point for FC Barcelona celebrations, where jubilant fans gather after victories.
