Behind the Baroque facades of Gamla Stan and central Stockholm lie the meeting halls, grand lodges, and private clubs of the Freemasons, Odd Fellows, Neptuniorden, and a dozen less-known brotherhoods. Their rituals, symbols, and networks of influence have shaped Swedish society since the Age of Liberty in the 18th century.

This walk takes you through the city these societies built, and the secrets they still keep.

On this walk, you will pass through the layers of that world: gentlemen's clubs and grand lodges, a house built for Swedish nobility that still bears 2,337 coats of arms on its walls, a cathedral that witnessed coronations and massacres, and a waterfront building where one of Sweden's most private maritime orders still meets today.

The societies asked for discretion, not secrecy for its own sake.

What they built, in stone, in ritual, in networks of mutual trust, has quietly shaped this city for three centuries.
