Despre Elizabeth Quay Bridge
Elizabeth Quay Bridge is a pedestrian bridge across the inlet at Elizabeth Quay, the waterfront development on the edge of Perth's city centre beside the Swan River. It is a modern landmark of the redeveloped riverfront, and it lets you cross the water on foot and look back at the city skyline.
The story behind it
For many years the city's centre sat somewhat apart from the river, separated from it by a busy road and car parks. Elizabeth Quay was created to bring people back to the water. A new inlet was cut into the shore, and the quay opened to the public in 2016 with promenades, cafes and open space around it.
The bridge is part of that design. It spans the inlet and links the two sides of the waterfront, so a stroll around the quay becomes a loop rather than a dead end. It is a newcomer compared with the older buildings nearby, but it has quickly become one of the most photographed spots in the city.
What to look for
- The curve of the bridge deck and the white structure above it, which look especially sharp against a clear blue Perth sky.
- The view back toward the city towers from the middle of the span, with the water of the inlet directly below.
- The Swan Bells tower beside the quay, whose glass and copper form is easy to spot from the bridge.
- The reflections on the water at the end of the day, when the lights of the quay come on.
Tips for your visit
- The bridge is outdoors and part of the public waterfront, so it is free to walk across. Check current information if you are visiting during a closure or event.
- Allow 15 to 30 minutes for the bridge and a loop of the quay, longer if you stop for a coffee or a meal.
- Early morning is quiet and good for photos, while sunset gives the best light and a lively atmosphere. Summer afternoons can be very hot, so bring water and a hat.
- The Swan Bells, Barrack Square and the river ferry jetties are all a short walk away, so you can easily combine them in one outing.
Explore it on a quest
The best way to take in the bridge is as one stop on a walk through the waterfront and the streets behind it. Questo's self-guided quests lead you from place to place on your phone, tell you about each spot as you arrive and set a puzzle in what is in front of you. Browse the quests in Perth and start whenever you like, with no guide and no group to join.
