Dare you wander to the north of Manhattan and visit Washington Heights, where Fort Washington lies, the last defense against the British during the American Revolutionary War?
During your quest, you will see The Cloisters, one of the most unique museums in the city for its medieval look and feel. You will learn how St. Frances Cabrini impacted the lives of children everywhere, including the Five Points, the worst slum in the city’s history. You will discover the story of an exclusive dinner where guests were served on horseback.

Where does the Fort Tryon Park walk start and finish?
It starts at the Fort Washington Memorial and finishes at The Met Cloisters, so it does not return to the start. Along the way you pass Bennett Park, the St Frances Cabrini Shrine, the Linden and Flagpole Terraces, Billings Arcade and the Heather Garden.
How long does it take and how far is the walk?
Most players take about two hours, including walking and solving the puzzles. The route covers 3.2 km through Washington Heights and Fort Tryon Park. You can pause at any point and continue later, so there is no need to finish in one go.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together on the walk. You follow the route on a phone, reading the story of each place and solving puzzles based on what is in front of you, so friends and family can work through it side by side.
Do we need to book a time slot?
No. This is a self-guided quest with no guide and no group to join, so you can start whenever you like. Just head to the Fort Washington Memorial, open the app and begin. You can also stop partway and pick it up again later.
Is the quest outdoors, and what if it rains?
The route runs outdoors, through Bennett Park and the paths, terraces and gardens of Fort Tryon Park before ending at The Met Cloisters. Dress for the weather, and since you can pause and continue later, you can wait out a shower or come back another day.
