Is this an escape game in Chinatown?
Yes, it plays as an outdoor escape game on your phone. The app leads you from stop to stop through Chinatown, tells the story of each place and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you, from the Golden Gate fortune cookie factory to the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association.
Where does the walk start and finish?
It starts at Bush Street & Grant Avenue and ends back at the same corner, so you finish where you began. Along the way you pass the Old Chinese Telephone Exchange, Portsmouth Square, Rube Goldberg's former building and the Trade Mark Building, covering about 2.1 km.
How long does it take, and can we take a break?
Plan on about 2 to 2.5 hours, including walking, listening to the stories and solving the puzzles. You can pause whenever you like, stop for tea or a snack, and continue later from where you left off.
Is it a good activity for kids?
It is recommended for families, and suits school-age children who enjoy a story and like helping crack puzzles at each stop. The history covers immigrant life, the Gold Rush and the 1906 earthquake. With over two hours on foot, very young children may find it long.
