In this game you will explore the different types of ancient Roman entertainments and where you can still see traces of the once magnificent buildings, above and below ground.

Families with older children and ancient-history fans get a story-led hunt for a missing gladiator, starting across from the Colosseum and ending near Piazza Navona. Along the way you learn how Romans were entertained and spot traces of their great buildings, with no guided tour to keep pace with. Do you have to pay to play this gladiator game?
Yes, this is a paid quest, and one ticket covers the whole group playing together. You do not need any attraction tickets for the route, so there is nothing else to buy before you set off from the Colosseum area.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at the intersection of Via Labicana and Via del Colosseo, across the road from the Colosseum and next to the red bus ticket booth. It finishes on a side street off Piazza Navona, under an arcade of white stone pillars beside shops and restaurants, so it does not return to the start.
How long does it take and how far do we walk?
Most players take around two and a half hours, including walking and solving the puzzles. The route covers about 3 km through the historic centre, passing stops such as the bronze statue of Julius Caesar and a fountain in a small piazza.
Do we need to book a start time?
No. You can start whenever you like, with no group to join and no guide to meet. If you need a break for food or a rest, you can pause the game and continue later from where you stopped.
Do we need tickets for the Colosseum or other sites?
No attraction tickets are required. The quest leads you around famous sites and lesser known spots in the historic centre, telling the story of ancient Roman entertainment and its gladiators as you go.
