It is a walking tour and escape game combined, played outdoors on your phone. The app leads you from place to place, tells the story of each one and sets puzzles based on what you see around you. You do not go inside the places on the route; they are not part of the experience.
What will we see on this Chinatown scavenger hunt?
Stops include the Chinatown Gateway, the Nine Dragon Wall, the Chinatown Mural, the Pui Tak Center, the Chinese American Museum of Chicago, the Chinatown Branch library, St. Therese Chinese Catholic School, well-known restaurants like Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings and Happy Lamb Hot Pot, and Ping Tom Memorial Park, a 17-acre park on the Chicago River.
Where does it start and how long does it take?
The quest starts at Chinatown Square Plaza. Plan on about an hour of play and a walk of roughly 2.8 km through the neighborhood's streets and along to the riverside park. You can go faster or slower, since there is no guide setting the pace.
Do we need to book a time, and can we play as a group?
No fixed time is needed: start whenever suits you, with no guide and no other groups joining. One ticket covers your whole group, playing together on your phones. If you want to stop for dumplings or a rest, you can pause the game and continue later.
