Bangor Castle is an impressive Elizabethan-style mansion completed in 1852 for wealthy landowner Robert Edward Ward. Designed by renowned architect William Burn, the castle features 35 bedrooms and accommodated 25 servants, reflecting the opulence and grandeur of Victorian estate life. The castle gained additional historical significance through its connection to Ward's grandson Barry, who earned the Victoria Cross during the Battle of Jutland in 1916, one of World War I's most pivotal naval engagements. In 1941, the castle was sold to the local authority and now houses the North Down Museum, allowing visitors to explore both the architectural splendor of the building and the rich history of the region.
