The Alhambra palatine city and the Albayzín residential quarter occupy neighboring hills divided by the Darro. The Alhambra and Generalife reflect Nasrid court life, architecture, gardens and water engineering, while the Albayzín preserves a street plan and domestic architecture shaped by Moorish and later Andalusian traditions. The quest’s royal intrigue is fictional; these urban layers are documented.
